Fairborn wins again
FAIRBORN — With Saturday’s 54-52 win over Springfield Shawnee, the Fairborn Skyhawks boys basketball team is enjoying its longest winning streak of the season thus far. Fairborn jumped out to a 29-21 lead at the break, then held on to nab the two-point win. No individual statistics were available. The Skyhawks, winners of three straight, are back in action Tuesday when they play at Greene County foe Beavercreek. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Bucs rally past Piqua
XENIA — The hosts trailed 49-58 as they headed into the final quarter of Saturday’s boys basketball game, but Xenia (6-5, 3-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South) outscored visiting Piqua 28-17 to claim a 77-75 win.
Samari Curtis came off the bench and scored a game-high 25 points, Ricky Williams scored 20 and Kobe Hughlett scored 10 for Xenia. Ben Schmiesing led Piqua (3-9, 2-6 GWOC American North) with a 20-point effort, Caleb Patton scored 15 and Nate Monnin scored 15 to go with his game-high 12 rebounds.
Xenia next plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 in Greenville.
Xenia defeats Meadowdale
XENIA — The host Buccaneers didn’t allow Meadowdale to score more than six points in any quarter, Saturday, in a convincing 45-15 home win at Xenia High. Trinity-Morton No0ks came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points and Victoria Rady scored a dozen points and had a team-best nine rebounds for Xenia (4-10, 2-5 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South). The Bucs host Greenville at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
No. 1 Carroll falls to Wayne
HUBER HEIGHTS — Mere days after being voted the top-ranked Division II girls high school basketball team in Ohio, by the Associated Press, Carroll faltered 77-53 to Division I perennial powerhouse Wayne, Saturday.
The Patriots led 28-27 at the half, but were outscored 24-6 in the final period. Amanda Schroeder led Carroll with 26 points scored, and Ellie Rumme tossed in nine points. No individual statistics were available for Wayne. Carroll gets back into Greater Catholic League Co-Ed action Saturday when they play a 2 p.m. game at Cincinnati McNicholas.
Bellbrook wins over Franklin
BELLBROOK — Host Bellbrook grabbed a 26-10 halftime lead and cruised from there, to win 63-45, Saturday, over Franklin. No individual statistics were reported by Bellbrook, but Franklin’s Layne Ferrell scored 20 points in the loss.
Bellbrook remains atop the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern Division with a 5-0 mark, and they’re 9-2 overall. The Golden Eagles next play on Monday, Jan. 23 at Beavercreek.
‘Bolts better Beavers
BEAVERCREEK — Visiting Clayton Northmont rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to upend host Beavercreek, 51-44, in a boys basketball battle on Saturday. No individual statistics were reported by Northmont. Beavercreek (6-6, 3-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference, National East) was led by Jon Alessandro’s 17 points, Peyton Young was next with 14 points and Cedric Baldwin finished with 10. In case you might’ve missed it a couple graphs up from here, Beavercreek will host Fairborn tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Cedarville sinks Yellow Springs
YELLOW SPRINGS — Elizabeth Smith scored 19 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Julian Roberts tossed in 17, but visiting Cedarville came away with a 60-53 win. No individual stats were available for Cedarville. Yellow Springs (6-7, 2-3 in the Metro Buckeye Conference) hosts Middletown Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Rams defeat WL-Salem
JAMESTOWN — The host Greeneview Rams jumped out to a 39-17 lead at halftime and handled Ohio Heritage Conference foe West Liberty-Salem the rest of the way, for a 66-42 win Friday at Greeneview High.
Ethan Bradds led the Rams (9-2, 4-1 OHC) with a game-high 22 points scored, and teammate Mason Schneider finished with 13. Greeneview will host Milford Center Fairbanks for a 7:30 p.m. nonleague battle on Friday.
Bellbrook falls to Jacks
BELLBROOK — The host Golden Eagles hit just 13 of 35 shots from the field (37.1 percent) in Friday’s low scoring 50-35 loss to Southwestern Buckeye League, Southwestern Division foe Oakwood. Donnie Crouch his six of his 10 shot tries, and was 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point line, to lead Bellbrook (4-5, 2-4 SWBL Southwestern) with a game-high 15 points. Brendan Talarczyk led Oakwood (7-5, 3-3 SWBL Southwestern) with 14.
Buc bowlers win
XENIA — Evan Adkins and Zane Eneix each tossed 400 series to lead Xenia to a 2,372 to 2,087 win Friday over Riverside Stebbins. Adkins rolled a match-best 457 series; Eneix was close behind with a 438. Other two-game series were rolled by James McDaniel (375), Ryan Day (361) and Nicholas Harbison (352).
Xenia leads the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South division race with a 6-4 overall mark, 4-3 in the division. They’ll next host Trotwood-Madison at 4 p.m. Thursday at Beaver-Vu Bowl, in Beavercreek.
Buc girls win, too
XENIA — Four Buccaneers bowlers with 300 two-game series was enough to earn the Xenia girls bowling team a 1,876 to 1,689 win over Riverside Stebbins on Friday. Caity Moody (346), Shayna Caraway (327), Kelly Fullen (321) and Kailee Palecek (305) each passed the 300 mark to lead Xenia to the win, and Xenia’s Briana Salazar almost reached the 300 mark as well, finishing with a 263 series. Stebbins’ Alexandria Mann rolled a match-best 346 series in the loss.
LCA bests Miami Valley
XENIA — Legacy Christian Academy trailed visiting Miami Valley by a 14-7 count after one quarter of play in Friday’s boys basketball contest, but the hosts exploded for a 24-8 margin in their favor for the second quarter and ended up with a 66-52 win. No individual stats were reported by either team. LCA is now 8-5 overall, 4-2 in the Metro Buckeye Conference. They’ll host Carlisle in a non-league tilt at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Bulldogs bounced by Dayton Christian
DAYTON — As a team, visiting Yellow Springs couldn’t score more than nine points in any quarter in Friday’s 66-33 loss to Metro Buckeye Conference leading Dayton Christian. No statistics were reported by Yellow Springs (1-10, 0-5 MBC). The Bulldogs head west to take on New Paris Graham at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 for their next game. They’ll then host Troy Christian in an MBC battle on Friday.
