The Xenia Scouts will host a Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League play-in game at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Grady’s Field, on the Athletes In Action athletic complex in Xenia. Who they’ll play is another question.

The third-place finishing Scouts (24-16) were scheduled to play the sixth-place Lake Erie Monarchs, but the Lake Erie team had committed to playing in a national baseball tournament and had to pull out of the GLSCL playoffs.

That left the Grand Lake Mariners (18-22) and the Cincinnati Steam (16-22) battling it out for the sixth and final playoff spot.

Cincinnati had a pair of make-up games to play with the Galion Graders on Tuesday, but they had to win both games in order to have a chance at the sixth and final spot.

Galion won Tuesday’s first game, 3-2.

So, while the GLSCL website still lists “pending” as Xenia’s Wednesday opponent, we think it will be the Grand Lake Mariners.

Whether it’s Grand Lake or Cincinnati in the visiting dugout, Xenia will be the home opponent for Wednesday’s game at 7:05 p.m.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will then face the Hamilton Joes in a first-round best-of-three playoff series. That game is set for a 7:05 p.m. Thursday start at Hamilton’s Foundation Field.
