Raiders men’s basketball signs Manns

FAIRBORN — James Manns, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward at Kingston Academy in Middletown, has decided to attend Wright State and play basketball for the Raiders next fall, WSU head coach Scott Nagy announced Friday.

Manns, a native of Columbus, averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and one assist at Kingston this past season after playing at Walnut Ridge High School the year before when he helped lead the Scots to back-to-back Columbus City-South Division championships and a berth in the Ohio Division II Final Four. Manns averaged 14.7 points and 7.4 rebounds at Walnut Ridge as a senior.

Skyhawks fall to Cedarville

CEDARVILLE — Fresh off its first victory of the season, the Fairborn tennis team traveled to Cedarville on Thursday hoping to extend its winning streak to two. But the hosts had other ideas. Cedarville rolled over their guests 5-0 on April 27.

Cedarville swept the singles with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores at each spot. Tyler Fillback at No. 1, Austin Suther at No. 2 and Mary Shaw at No. 3 singles took the losses for Fairborn.

At doubles, Titus and Eli Smith played at No. 1, while Shayla Murray and Corynn Spahr teamed up at the No. 2 spot, and both pairs lost by identical 1-6, 0-6 scores.

In the lone JV match, Heidi Wahlstrom and Harry Huynh were paired together, and they fell 5-8 in their match.

Fairborn wraps up regular season play next week with a road match at Yellow Springs, then Senior Night is Tuesday May 2 against Xenia to wrap up the regular season.

Fairborn JVs keep winning

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn junior varsity softball team claimed a 15-4 win April 27 over Greeneview. The Skyhawks JV squad is now 18-1 this season.

Skyhawks defeat Huber Heights Wayne

FAIRBORN — Damian Burnett pitched a good game and earned the win in an April 27 7-3 win over the visiting Warriors. Burnett also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Ryan Profitt went 2-for-3 with a double, and four RBI. Jacob Webb went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Fairborn blanks Benjamin Logan

FAIRBORN — Fairborn’s varsity baseball team claimed a 5-0 win over Bellefontaine Benjamin Logan on April 26. No other details were available.

Fairborn knocks Knights

FAIRBORN — Fairborn claimed an 11-1 win over Greenon on April 26, the second game for the Skyhawks to play on Wednesday.

Car Load Night at Shady Bowl

DeGRAFF — Shady Bowl Speedway will host Car Load Night, Saturday April 29. Fans can pack a car with as many people they can wedge in and the entire group will be admitted for $20. Pick-up trucks will be allowed to fill the cab with fans. All fans must be in the cab, no one can be in the truck bed. The racing fans will see late models, modifieds, street stocks, pure stocks, compacts, super compact series and spectator drag cars. This class will also have a unique point system as they will be running under a chase-like format. The winner will receive a race-ready complete compact division car. In addition, all driver safety items will be part of the winnings. Quick Parts, CS&SS LLC and Hanger 18 Race Cars will sponsor the event.
