Scouts earn GLSCL awards

Four members of the Xenia Scouts were listed when the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League posted the results of the 2015 GLSCL Post Season Awards. A couple of batters and a couple of pitchers were named. Xenia catcher David Gauntt was named as the first team catcher. Kyle Carnahan was named as a second team designated hitter. From the mound, Quentin McGrath was named a second team starting pitcher and Ben Aldridge was named a first team relief pitcher.

The Scouts broke many team records this season, including a tie for home runs (7) between Gauntt and Carnahan and most wins for a pitcher (6) from McGrath.

Fish and Game holds youth archery event

The Greene County Fish and Game held its last youth archery event of the year, July 25. Contestants include Angelica Heggam, Trevor Louis, Donald Shephard (who stepped up an age class to fill it out), Dalton Seiker, Danielle Price, Kailey Sweet, Jake Stanley, Audrey Stanley, Alex Stanley, and Daniel Henderson. All participants earned a medal or ribbon.

People who helped run the event include: Chief instructor Vernon Seiker, Shane Louis, Terry Brenan, Jim Heagon and Deborah Price.

Xenia sets Jamboree preseason football game for Aug. 21

XENIA — Xenia High School will host Kettering Fairmont for an Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned preseason Jamboree football game at 7 p.m. at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium. As part of Community Night, the Wee Bucs football teams and cheerleaders will be introduced, along with the seventh grade through high school athletic teams, flag corps and cheerleaders within the Xenia City School system.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going to the OHSAA’s scholarship program, with a donation also being made to the Xenia Senior Center.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek golf outing, Aug. 20

BELLBROOK — The 24th Annual Bellbrook-Sugarcreek area chamber of commerce golf outing will take place, Thursday Aug. 20 at Sugar Valley Golf Club, 1250 Mead Road, in Bellbrook.

Registration and lunch is at noon, shotgun start takes place at 1 p.m. Golfers are asked to wear soft-spiked shoes. Cost is $90 per player, which includes golf, a cart, food all day, refreshments and prizes.
