0

WILBERFORCE — The Central State University athletic department released its 2017 football schedule, and it includes a pair of nonleague foes from the 1990s and a return appearance to Indianapolis for the annual Circle City Classic.

The Marauders open up the season with a non-league contest Sept. 2 at home against Elizabeth City State. The meeting between CSU and ECSU will be the first between the two schools since 1992.

Central State (1-9 overall, 1-6 SIAC West last season) opens Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play the following week Sept. 9 in Atlanta against Clark Atlanta out of the East Division. The Marauders return home on Sept. 16 to host another East Division school, Morehouse State. CSU will then head to Indianapolis to play in the 34th Circle City Classic on Sept. 23 against SIAC division rival Kentucky State in Lucas Oil Stadium. The month of September wraps up with the Marauders traveling Sept. 30 to Columbia, S.C. to play the SIAC East’s Benedict College.

CSU celebrates Homecoming on Oct. 7 against division foe Miles College, then the Marauders will face Southwest Athletic Conference opponent Arkansas–Pine Bluff, for the first time since 1996, on Oct. 14 in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Senior student-athletes will be recognized during the last home game of the season on Oct. 21 against the SIAC East’s Fort Valley State.

The Marauders will end the regular season with back-to-back West division road games against defending West champ Tuskegee University on Oct. 28, and Lane College on Nov. 4.

Defending SIAC East division champ Albany State is the only SIAC school the Marauders will not see in 2017.

All Central State University home games are scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m. Central State will be partnering with the Gem City Sports Network to provide live radio and video coverage of every home game.

Ticket information will be made available on the school’s maraudersports.com website in the upcoming weeks.
