Jackets fall twice at NCCAA tourney

ROANOKE, Va. — The top-seeded Midwest Regional champion Cedarville University Yellow Jackets lost twice in early action of the NCCAA National Softball Tournament, May 17 at the Botetourt Sports Complex.

Cedarville, now 33-19, is making its 11th appearance in the event including its fifth in the past seven years. The Jackets are seeking their first national title.

Just four teams are entered in the round robin format. The top two teams in pool play square off in the final.

In Wednesday’s May 17 opening games, No. 4 Bluefield (Va.) surprised Cedarville, 1-0, while No. 2 Judson (Ill.) lost to No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist, 5-1.

The Yellow Jackets fell to Judson in Wednesday’s second game, 6-3, then Oklahoma Baptist defeated Bluefield, 6-2.

Pool play wraps up at 11 a.m. on Thursday May 18 with Cedarville (0-2) vs. Oklahoma Baptist (2-0) and Judson (1-1) vs. Bluefield (1-1).

The top two teams play for the NCCAA banner at 2 p.m. Thursday.
