FAIRBORN — Brian Arlinghaus, an assistant coach with the Wright State University golf team the past two seasons, has been elevated to the head coach position, the school announced on Wednesday July 5.

“I am excited to be playing for Coach Arlinghaus,” said sophomore Austin Schoonmaker, of Springboro. “He has a lot of knowledge, not just about golf, but also the mental aspect of the game, which is extremely important at this level of competition.”

“Coach Arlinghaus is more than ready to lead this team and help bring a Horizon League championship back to Wright State,” said senior Chris Rossi, of Fairfield.

“I hope the area talent sees the tremendous potential Coach Arlinghaus brings to this program,” said Ryan Wenzler, a Centerville golfer who completed his eligibility this spring.

During his two years as an assistant, the Raiders finished third at the Horizon League Championships both years with Wenzler earning medalist honors in 2016 and tying for first in 2017. Wenzler was also the Horizon League Co-Player of the Year in 2017.

“We are extremely excited that Brian has decided to continue his journey with the Raider family,” Associate Athletic Director Trevor Doll said. “I know he will continue the upper trajectory of the Wright State golf program.”

Arlinghaus came to Wright State after serving as the head coach at Miami University-Hamilton. During his tenure there, Arlinghaus coached the Harriers to second-place Ohio Regional Campus Conference finishes in 2012 and 2013 and the conference championship in 2014. He also coached the Conference Player of the Year in 2014.

Prior to his coaching career, he was an Assistant Golf Professional in the Southern Ohio PGA, where he was responsible for operations of junior camps, teaching private lessons to members and public golfers of all skill levels, and competed in Southern Ohio PGA Sectional tournaments.

Arlinghaus is still an active player and frequently plays in amateur tournaments in the Cincinnati and Dayton area.

Arlinghaus earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Dayton and obtained his Master’s in Sport & Exercise Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

A Cincinnati native, Arlinghaus owns and operates Cincinnati Sports Psychology where he works with athletes of all ages and sports to enhance player’s mental strength, awareness and focus. He is also a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and is an active member of The First Tee of Greater Miami Valley (TFTGMV) Board of Directors.

He lives in West Chester with his wife, Meredith, and their three children, Ellie, Samantha and Freddie.
