Beavers win Miamisburg tourney
MIAMISBURG — Beavercreek’s girls volleyball team defeated Carroll in pool play Aug. 26 at the Miamisburg Invitational tournament, 23-25, 25-10, 25-10.
Anna Nartker had five service aces and seven digs. Kelly Goenaga-Lask had eight service aces, six kills, one block and three digs. Hannah Lefevers turned in three kills and 20 assists, and Lauren Goenaga-Lask added five kills and seven service aces.
Beavercreek defeated Germantown Valley View in pool play 25-21, 22-25, 25-20. Lefevers had three kills and 29 assists. Abby Hack had six kills and four blocks. Goenaga-Lask had nine kills, Kirsten Williams had five kills and one block, Kelly Goenaga-Lask had four kills, three service aces, one block, and five digs, and Sara Laughman had five kills and a block in the win over the Spartans.
Beavercreek defeated New Carlisle Tecumseh in the championship game, 24-26, 25-15, 25-21. Lefevers had three kills, 23 assists and nine digs, Hack had f0ur kills and a block, Williams had four kills, a block and two digs, Kelly Goenaga-Lask had five kills, two service aces and six blocks, and Sara Laughman turned in six kills and four blocks.
Greeneview tops Mechanicsburg
JAMESTOWN — Greeneview improved to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the Ohio Heritage Conference with a 180-202 win over Mechanicsburg Aug. 29. Mason Witt shot 34 and Eli Beekman 43 to lead the way.
Rams buzz Bees
JAMESTOWN — Visiting Greeneview beat Tipp City Bethel, 25-15, 25-22, 25-8, in non-conference volleyball action Aug. 29. Maddie Hines had 11 kills, and Bryce Ratliff had 12 assists for the 4-1 Rams. Madyson Brittingham and Allie Simpson each had eight aces. Ashley Schloss recorded four blocks. The reserve team won, 25-14, 25-21.
Springfield, rain beat Fairborn
FAIRBORN — Fairborn’s girls tennis team dropped a 3-0 rain-shortened match Aug. 29. Paige Murry lost, 1-6, 1-6, at first singles, McKayla Lyons lost, 0-6, 0-6, at second singles, and Amanda Wilson and Katelyn Byczkowski lost, 0-6, 2-6, at first doubles.
Coach Doug Coy said they all played competitive matches despite the score.
WLS edges Cedarville
CEDARVILLE — West Liberty-Salem beat Cedarville, 186-187, in boys golf action Aug. 29. Cedarville’s Noah Myers was medalist with a 39, while Adam Wood shot 48 for the Indians, which is 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the Ohio Heritage Conference.
Cedarville sweeps Bradford
CEDARVILLE — The Indians had little trouble keeping Bradford winless, notching a 25-22, 25-8, 25-14 win Aug. 29. Sara Best had nine kills, five digs and four aces as the Indians improved to 3-1 overall. Abigail Sheridan added five kills, 12 aces and three digs, while Kalley Schulz had a kill, 21 assists, six digs and two blocks. Grace Stevnson chipped in eight kills, two aces, two digs and five blocks.
The reserve team won, 25-21, 27-25.
Elks top Golden Eagles
BELLBROOK — Centerville edged Bellbrook, 3-2, in girls tennis Aug. 29.
Andrea Szep won her match at first singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Shea Foster followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at second singles. Anika Arora lost, 6-4, 7-5, at third singles, while the doubles teams of Abby Schultz and Paige Buttery and Jessica Tschantz and Erin Fuenfgeld lost, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively.
Fairborn drop VB matches
FAIRBORN — The host Skyhawks lost in two sets to Northmont and Oakwood during a tri-match Aug. 26. The Northmont score was 17-25, 13-25, while the Oakwood score was 12-25, 11-25. Individual stats were not avaiable, however Kayleigh Finlayson, Darby Ballard, Zuza Livosky, and Elena North were cited for solid play.
Greenview golf wins
JAMESTOWN — Greeneview topped Mechanicsburg, 223-233 in girls golf Aug. 29.
Raider men defeat Cincinnati
FAIRBORN — Wright State University’s men’s soccer team picked up its first win and remained undefeated with a 4-2 decision over Cincinnati. WSU’s AJ Paterson picked up a hat trick for the Raiders.
Paterson picked up his first goal of the season and the Raiders first of the year as he converted a penalty kick at 6:45. WSU’s Alec Philippe collected his first goal of the season at 51:19 but UC came right back with goal less than two minutes later at 53:10 by Austin Smythe, from Mads Tranberg.
It wasn’t much longer until a pass from Austin Kinley found Paterson for his second goal of the night at 56:48. Paterson picked up the hat trick and the Raiders final goal of the night unassisted at 83:01. On the game, WSU finished with 12 shots to UC’s nine.
Wright State (1-0-1) hits the road to play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 at West Virginia.
Fall basketball league at Beavercreek
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.
The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. HALO 5K Fun Run/Walk set
XENIA — The inaugural Helping Animals Lost & Orphaned (HALO) 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at Caesar Creek Vineyards LLC, 962 Long Road. Check-in and same-day registration will take place 8:30 a.m.
