Bellbrook CC improves at ‘Burg Invite

MIAMISBURG — The Bellbrook Golden Eagles high school cross country teams raced Sept. 2 at the Miamisburg Cross Country Invitational. The girls finished seventh overall, improving on their 2016, 10th-place finish. The boys finished fourth overall, improving on their sixth-place finish in 2016.

Emily Pelfrey finished 10th overall, running the 5,000-meter distance in 21 minutes, 10 seconds. She was followed by Rachel Kahler in 22:33.

The boys were lead by Max Bretland, finishing in ninth overall, in a time of 17:10. Cole Weslow was the second Bellbrook finisher in 17:41. Host, Miamisburg, won both team races.

Golden Eagles nip CJ

BELLBROOK — Bailey Sedlak scored off a pass from Bellbrook teammate Jade Edwards for the match’s only score in the Golden Eagles’ 1-0 win Sept. 2 over Dayton Chaminade Julienne. In four matches thus far this season, Bellbrook has yet to be scored upon. Bellbrook has defeated Franklin, Brookville, Eaton and now CJ by a combined score of 20-0. They’ll host Valley View at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Beavercreek tops MVSSCA soccer poll

DAYTON — The Beavercreek high school boys soccer team was voted No. 1 in the first Miami Valley Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association poll, released Sept. 1. Carroll is ranked third in the same boys D-I poll. In boys D-II, Bellbrook was voted No. 3, and Yellow Springs received a No. 5 ranking in the boys Division III poll.

In girls soccer, Beavercreek is ranked No. 3 in the girls D-I poll, with Bellbrook and Carroll third and fourth respectively in the girls Division II poll. Greeneview took home a No. 8 ranking in the first girls Division III poll.

Bucs hosting Houston Strong Sock Drive

XENIA — The Xenia Athletic Department and XHS Student Council are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for the Xenia Community Schools community to help out the people devastated by Hurricane Harvey in the Houston Area. Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Tuesday, Sept. 12, collection boxes will be placed at all Xenia Community Schools for the collection of NEW socks.

All ages of socks will be accepted from children to adult socks both male and female varieties. The school that brings in the most number of pairs will receive a special prize from the Athletic Department. Each student from the winning school will receive one ticket to any one home athletic competition.

Fall basketball league at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.

The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. Learn-To-Row class

MORAINE — The Dayton Boat Club adult rowing program will host its learn-to-row class Friday through Sunday, Sept. 15-17, at the club’s boathouse on East River Road.

The three-session on-water class covers terminology, safety, stroke technique, equipment use and care, and sweep rowing in an eight-oared racing shell.

Sessions are 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15; 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16; and 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. The course is $100 per person, which is deducted from a rower’s seasonal dues if he or she joins the novice team following the course. Each participant should wear comfortable but not loose-fitting exercise clothes and bring a water bottle, a pair of socks and a small towel.
