Eagles passes fly over Greeneview

CINCINNATI — Moments after his team’s 47-24 loss on the road to a speedy Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy team, Greeneview coach Ryan Haines hugged several of his players and thanked them for a great season.

“Only one other Greeneview team has finished a regular season undefeated. You did that. And only one other Greeneview team has won the Ohio Heritage Conference title. You did that, too! We have no reason to hang our heads after this loss. You played your hearts out, and you played well.”

CHCA just had too much speed, and they had a dead-eye passer in senior Danny Vanatsky.

Unofficially, Vanatsky completed 19 of 22 passes for 297 yards and touchdown passes to Julian Herman and Keegan Zimmerman (2). Again unofficially, Vanatsky was a perfect 12-for-12 passing for 186 yards in the second half.

The Eagles Alex Barnard fumbled the opening kickoff, to set up Greeneview’s first score of the game — a 37-yard field goal by Jon Brakeall. But then Barnard made up for his mistake by returning the next kickoff 86 yards for a score.

The Rams got back out in front when quarterback Nick Clevenger ran in on a keeper to the left. A Brakeall extra point and it was 10-6 Greeneview.

It would be their last lead of the night.

Greeneview finished the year with an 11-1 record.

Haines recognized his six seniors — Jacob Green, Griffin Mangan, Tyler Robinette, Lane Goodbar, Hunter Grimm and Tylor Tackett — after the game. We had a heckuva season, and we should be proud.

With the win, CHCA (8-2) will take on Middletown Madison (a 14-10 winner over Anna), in the Division V regional semifinal at a venue yet to be determined.
