Waters joins hoops committee
WILBERFORCE — Head Wilberforce University men’s basketball coach Kevin Waters joins the Association of Independent Institutions men’s basketball oversight committee.
Waters will serve along with several other coaches to ensure that appropriate oversight of men’s basketball is maintained, will enhance the development and public perception of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason men’s basketball.
Freshman Winchester honored
FAIRBORN — Everett Winchester has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, league officials announced Nov. 13.
Winchester, a native of Baltimore, Md., came off the bench in the season opener at Loyola to score 15 points and grab three rebounds. The redshirt freshman shot four of eight from the field and seven of 10 from the freethrow line in 31 minutes of play.
Clements’ contract not renewed
FAIRBORN — Wright State University Athletics has announced that head women’s volleyball coach Susan Clements’ contract will not be renewed. Her contract runs through the end of November.
“We appreciate Coach Clements’ efforts the last several years and wish her well,” WSU Director of Athletics Bob Grant said.
Clements, who recently finished her sixth season with the Raiders with an 11-18 record, posted an overall record of 48-133 at Wright State. She came to WSU after going 87-70 in five years at Niagara, where she advanced to three NCAA Tournaments.
A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
Bucs in Flyin’ to the Hoop
DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.
The Buccaneers, led by junior Samari Curtis who is considered by the tournament as the pre-season fourth ranked junior in Ohio, are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.
