GREENE COUNTY — Bellbrook High School can boast of not just one, but two soccer players of the year for 2017.
When the league’s post-season awards were announced on Nov. 16, girls soccer senior goalie Bekah Vine and boys senior midfielder Gavin Ferrin both earned Player of the Year honors in the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern Division.
Vine was tops in the SWBL with a .970 save percentage in goal. She gave up two goals throughout the regular season in 17 games played and recorded 64 saves.
Ferrin ranked second on the Golden Eagles in goals scored with six, and was tops on the team and third in the SWBL in assists with 10.
In all, 16 Golden Eagles soccer players — eight on the girls team; eight on the boys — and girls coach Zach Huffman were recognized for postseason awards.
Vine and fellow girls soccer team seniors Cassidy Hofacker and Audrey Spirk were named to the SWBL Southwestern first-team. A Golden Eagle trio of sophomores Bailey Sedlak and Lydia Travis, and junior Abby Judge, were named to the Southwestern Division’s second team, while seniors Madison Geloneck and Gabby Gerbic received Honorable Mention.
Bellbrook’s girls team won the Southwestern division with an undefeated 11-0-1 record in the league, 16-1-3 overall. Head Coach Zach Huffman was named the Southwestern Division Girls Coach of the Year.
Ferrin was joined on the SWBL Southwestern first team by fellow seniors Michael Owusu and Ryan Hunt.
Juniors Jared Zacharias, Adam Galle and Aaron Keefer were named to the league’s boys second team, while two other juniors — Caden Kooken and Lorenzo Morbelli — earned Honorable Mention recognition.
