JAMESTOWN — Senior Jon Brakeall has hit a lot of field goals during his high school football career, but none may have been as important as the one he successfully converted on Nov. 4.

Brakeall connected on a 25-yard field goal try with 41 seconds left in the game, to give No. 5-seed Greeneview a 31-28 win over No. 4 seeded Madeira, in the opening round of the Division V, Region 20 playoffs in Cincinnati.

Three Rams touchdowns were scored by quarterback Nick Clevenger, on runs of 30, 5 and 6 yards, and he also scored a two-point conversion. Running back Clay Payton scored Greeneview’s first TD of the evening from 2 yards out.

The win moves the Greeneview Rams (10-1) into the Division V, Region 20 semifinals against top-seeded Wheelersburg (10-1). That contest will be held starting at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 at Hernstein Field in Chillocothe.

Clevenger also led Greeneview in rushing with a game-high 208 yards on 22 carries.

Payton and Taylor Stinson both came up with 10 total tackles on defense as well. All 10 of Stinson’s stops were unassisted.

Madeira Mustangs quarterback Tyler Richmond completed 28 of 34 passes for a game-high 254 yards, and two TD passes. Madeira finishes the year with a 7-4 record.

Wheelersburg was voted the third-ranked Division V team in Ohio in the final 2018 Associated Press state high school football poll of this season, while Greeneview earned the 16th most points in the same poll.

The Pirates defeated Pemberville Eastwood, 21-14 in overtime to win the D-V state title last season.

The Greeneview-Wheelersburg winner will take on either Middletown Madison (10-0) or Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (8-2) in the regional final, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at a neutral location yet to be determined.
