Cedarville soccer teams earn NCAA bids
CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University’s soccer teams are headed to the NCAA Division II Championships.
Both teams learned their first-round assignments Monday as bids were extended to 38 men’s teams and 48 women’s squads.
On the men’s side, Cedarville, 14-3-2, is the no. 4 seed in the Midwest Region and will face no. 5 Quincy (Ill.), 12-6-2, at 6 p.m. EST Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.
The winner faces host and top seed Rockhurst (Mo.), 16-1-2, at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The no. 6 seed Lady Jackets, 13-4-4, play no. 3 Truman State (Mo.), 14-2-5, at 7 p.m. EST Thursday in Louisville, Ky.
The winner advances to meet host and no. 2 seed Bellarmine (Ky.), 16-2-2, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
It’s the first NCAA trip for each Cedarville soccer program since becoming active NCAA Division II members four years ago.
Four Patriots on all-District golf team
One Carroll girls golfer earned Division II first team all-Southwest District honors while three of her teammates were named to the all-Southwest District’s Honorable Mention team.
Brittney Blaschak was selected to the D-II first team. The Carroll junior finished second in the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division with a 40.80 scoring average through 153 holes of play.
Junior Haley Hentrich and seniors Lauren Dahm and Zandy Green were each named to the Southwest District Honorable Mention team. Green and Blaschak were both named to the first team all-GCL Co-Ed team, and Dahm was a GCL C-Ed second team pick as well.
The team finished second to Dayton Chaminade Julienne in the league with a 13-7 record and was coached by Roy Cassidy, who was named the GCL Co-Ed Coach of the Year.
Magic Volleyball tryouts are set
The Magic Volleyball Club will hold a series of tryouts for its girls volleyball teams.
Tryouts for 15-year-olds are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 15 at St. Helen’s, and from 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Xenia Community Center, 1204 W. 2nd Street, in Xenia.
A pair of tryouts for players 16 and 17 years of age are set for 1-3:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at St. Helen’s, and 7:30-9 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Xenia Community Center.
There will be a $10 tryout fee, cash only.
The Magic Volleyball Club is based out of Beavercreek.
Redsfest tickets on sale
CINCINNATI — FOX Sports Ohio Redsfest presented by PNC Bank will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Downtown Cincinnati from 3-10:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, and 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
More than 80 current players and coaches, Reds Hall of Famers, alumni and broadcasters are expected to attend including Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Aroldis Chapman, Todd Frazier and Billy Hamilton.
Tickets are on sale now at reds.com/redsfest, (513) 381-REDS, Great American Ball Park box office and select Kroger stores with Ticketmaster retail outlets.
Two-day tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and younger. One-day tickets are $17 for adults and $7 for kids. Children three and under are admitted free.
With each two-day Redsfest admission purchased, fans will receive two free tickets to the Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game on Sunday, April 10. Fans purchasing a one-day Redsfest admission will receive one free ticket to the April 10 game.
The first 11,000 fans through the Redsfest doors each day will receive a free Reds drawstring bag and a Mr. Redlegs knit cap.
Redsfest has grown to more than 300,000 square feet of activities including autograph and photo booths with current and former Reds players, interactive games for fans of all ages, game-used and authentic memorabilia and much more.
