Bellbrook falls to Tippecanoe

TIPP CITY — The host Red Devils rolled out to a 29-15 halftime lead. Despite outscoring Tippecanoe in the second half, Bellbrook was unable to come back in Tuesday night’s game.

The Golden Eagles’ Trent Nartker led all scorers with 16 points and John Bush finished with seven. Bellbrook (2-6, 2-1 Southwestern Buckeye League, Southwestern Division) returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 5 when they’ll travel to Eaton for a 7:30 p.m. league battle.

Emmanuel Christian 54, Greenon 29: The Knights fall to 1-6 overall, 1-2 in the Central Buckeye Conference’s Mad River Division with Tuesday’s road loss in Springfield. Greenon will next face Eaton at 6 p.m. in the Tri-Village holiday basketball tournament on Monday, Dec. 28.

CJ knocks of Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The visiting Chaminade Julienne Eagles led 19-15 at the half, then exploded for 19 points in the third (to eight for Beavercreek) to pull away to a 53-35 win Tuesday night.

Cedric Baldwin, Jon Alessandro and Nick Mueller each scored six points for the Beavers (0-7), while Jackson Back and Jackson Hansen each scored five.

Beavercreek plays next at Fairborn for a 7:30 p.m. contest Tuesday, Dec. 29. They’ll then host Miamisburg,

Wednesday at the same time.

Men’s Basketball

Raiders win third straight

FAIRBORN — The Wright State men’s basketball team wrapped up the nonleague portion of its schedule on a winning note Tuesday night, jumping out to a 36-23 halftime lead en route to a 65-49 decision over Murray State at WSU’s Nutter Center.

The Raiders shot 47 percent for the contest compared to 41 percent for the Racers and WSU also hit 14 of 16 foul shots while MSU was just seven of 18. Wright State also led in points in the paint (28-22) and points off of turnovers (14-6).

Four Raiders scored in double figures, led by JT Yoho’s 19 off the bench. Michael Karena had 18 while Mark Alstork and Biggie Minnis added 10 each.

Wright State (6-7) opens Horizon League play on the road as the Raiders travel to Milwaukee for a 4:00 Eastern game on Saturday, January 2.

Beavercreek offering four fitness classes

BEAVERCREEK — The City of Beavercreek Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is offering a Fat Blaster Boot Camp, Yoga, Piyo (Pilates, Yoga, Dance) and Pilates classes for the winter months. Classes will be held at C.I. Beaver Hall, 3696 Highmont St., in Beavercreek.

The Fat Buster Boot Camp runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., with one session running Dec. 7-Jan.22 (closed 12/21 and 1/1). Cost is $70 for residents; $80 for non-residents.

Yoga classes will be offered Mondays from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Dec. 7-Jan.11, and Jan. 25-Feb. 22; and Thursdays at the same times Jan. 27-Feb. 25. Cost is $45 residents; $52 non-residents.

Piyo runs Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. Dec. 8-Jan. 12, and Jan. 26-Feb. 23 Cost is also $45 for residents; $52 non-residents.

Pilates classes will take place at 6:15-7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 9-Jan. 13, and Jan. 27-Feb. 24. Residents pay $45; non-residents $52.

WWE Smackdown coming to Nutter Center

FAIRBORN — Wright State University will be the site of a WWE Smackdown professional wrestling event, starting at 7 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Nutter Center.

Competitors scheduled to be on the fight card include WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns & Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Sheamus & Kevin Owens, the Divas, and many, many more!

Masterson to headline First Pitch Banquet

FAIRBORN — The Wright State baseball program has announced that major league pitcher and Beavercreek native Justin Masterson will be the keynote speaker at the 12th annual First Pitch Banquet on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, on the main arena floor in WSU’s Nutter Center.

Justin Masterson is a 2003 graduate of Beavercreek High School where he starred in baseball and basketball. He then attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., for two seasons before transferring to San Diego State University for his junior year. There he pitched for Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2006 MLB draft following the college season. He shot through the minors and made his MLB debut on April 24, 2008.

The First Pitch Banquet features a sit-down dinner along with a silent auction. The cost for the event will be $70 per person or a VIP table for 10 guests costing $1000. The VIP table includes recognition during the program and admission to a pre-event meet and greet with Masterson. The doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m.
