FAIRBORN — Jordan Pumroy scored just about every way Tuesday night.

The Fairborn senior made free throws, layups, jumpers, 3-point shots and even a 4-point shot if you count the free throw after he was fouled.

Oh yeah … He also made a crazy turnaround jumper from 10 feet behind the 3-point line as the first half ended helping the Skyhawks beat Greene County rival Beavercreek 50-32 at Baker Memorial Field House.

It was that kind of night for the 6-foot guard, who scored a game-high 21 points in the Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover game.

“I was just feeling it,” he said. “My teammates definitely got me going. Coaches put me in position to make plays.”

Pumroy also had 12 rebounds and dished out a few nifty assists for Fairborn (4-4).

“He’s a leader and whether he’s trying to create for himself or for (teammates) he does a great job,” Coach Nathan Chivington said.

Pumroy had plenty of help. Branden Lilley had 10 points and Brandon Easterling added nine for Fairborn.

“Anybody can bring it at any time,” Pumroy said of his teammates. “That’s what I like about our team.”

After a slugglish start there was plenty to like about the Skyhawks.

Beavercreek (0-10) led 10-4 after the first quarter, but a KJ Redmon 3-pointer followed by Pumroy’s 4-point play gave the Skyhawks the lead for good with 1:28 left in the half. Beavercreek’s Cedric Baldwin cut the score to 17-16 with a driving bucket with 56 seconds in the half, setting up Pumroy’s spin and shoot from around 30 feet that gave the Skyhawks a 20-16 halftime lead.

Fairborn turned up the second-half defensive intensity and outscored Beavercreek 14-5 to lead 34-21 after three. A Baldwin bucket and a free throw from Jon Alessandro cut the lead to 34-26 with 6:16 left in the game, but a Pumroy baseline drive increased the lead to 10 and then Leslen Switzer hit a 3-pointer to put the game away.

“We continued with ball pressure,” Chivington said. “When you continually see that, one of two things happen. You find gaps in the defense or you let the pressure get to you.”

The pressure got to Beavercreek, which turned the ball over nine times in the second half after committing just six in the first half.

“Our offense was created by the momentum of our defense,” Chivington said. “Our guys (also) did a great job crashing the boards tonight.”

Baldwin led Beavercreek with 10 points while Jackson Hansen had seven for the Beavers, who were without to starters due to injury.

‘Creek girls top Fairborn

Beavercreek beat Fairborn 66-11 in the varsity girls game played prior to the boys game. BHS jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter and led the Skyhawks 34-2 at halftime. It was 58-6 after three quarters.

Cori Dilsavor got her first start this season for the 9-2 Beavers and scored a game-high 14 points. Lexi Moore also got the start and scored 13. Kayla Shields added 10, while Alexa Low and Keaira Youngblood added eight each. Maddi Shannon scored five, Bailey Draughn added four and Jaelyn and Braelyn Bean each scored two.

Kirsten George and Jana Brown-Griffith each had four points for the 2-8 Skyhawks, while Kaylie Cook added three.

Beavercreek’s defense forced 38 turnovers, leading to 30 points. The Beavers had 32 fast-break points and 16 second-chance points.
