PHOENIX — Cincinnatti Reds minor leaguer Tanner Rahier has avoided jail time for his arrest in Arizona on an assault charge.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Rahier was sentenced Thursday to two years of supervised probation for aggravated assault as part of a plea agreement.

Rahier was arrested last March for assaulting a woman outside a restaurant in the Phoenix-area suburb of Glendale.

The commissioner’s office initially suspended him without pay following the arrest.

The 22-year-old third baseman was a second round pick in the June 2012 draft.

He previously played for the Class A Dayton Dragons, where he batted .238 with nine homers and 54 RBIs in 117 games. He committed 16 errors.
