Bradds earns post season honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Belmont University men’s basketball junior Evan Bradds was named earlier this week to the Lou Henson All-America Team by CollegeInsider.com and the American Sports Network All-ASN Team, awarded to the top mid-major players in college basketball.

Named as the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference’s Player of the Year and All-District by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Bradds led the nation in field goal percentage (.714) after pacing the country in that category a year ago.

Through 100 career games, Bradds’ field goal percentage (.690; 507-of-735) ranks first in NCAA Division I men’s basketball since the statistical category was first tracked in 1948.

Bradds became the first player to lead the country in field goal percentage in consecutive seasons since, coincidentally, former Belmont University Bruin Adam Mark did so in 2002 and 2003.

The Jamestown native and Greeneview High grad ranked among OVC leaders in five statistical categories, including fourth in scoring (17.6) and second in rebounding (9.2).

Bradds becomes the sixth Bruin named as a mid-major All-American, joining Justin Hare (2008), Alex Renfroe (2009), Ian Clark (2011, 2013), J.J. Mann (2014), and Craig Bradshaw (2015).

Olive Garden to host Fairborn Spirit Night event

FAIRBORN — Olive Garden restaurants, in partnership with the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Network, will host a Fairborn Spirit Night in recognition of Team Moms and the high school athletes they support.

The Fairborn event, one of 36 Olive Garden events in Ohio and the only one in Greene County, will take place on April 12 at the Olive Garden location on 2865 Centre Dr. in Fairborn. Guests are encouraged to wear the school’s colors and join in the celebration. This initiative is part of Olive Garden’s ongoing commitment to support its local communities.

Each Olive Garden location has selected a local high school to partner with in its community and has provided team dining discounts and donations to the athletics program. Since the beginning of the partnership, Olive Garden restaurants nationwide donated more than $570,000 dollars to local schools.

Beavercreek hosting fundamentals girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 16th Amanda (Reese) Crockett and Ed Zink Beavercreek Fundamental Girls Basketball Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6-9 at Beavercreek High School.

Cost is $100 per camper with a $10 discount for additional campers from the same family. Anyone who registers by May 20 can register for $90.

Camp will be administered and taught by Beavercreek’s all-time scoring leader Amanda (Reese) Crockett, and current Beavers coach and three-time coach of the year Ed Zink, along with current and former basketball players.

The camp is designed to provide campers with personal attention to improve their basketball fundamentals. Campers will also develop their skills and teamwork each day during league play.

Campers will receive a camp t-shirt, a drink each day, and trophies/awards for contest winners.

Also, Thursday June 9 is Mother-Daughter Camp Day, and family members are invited to participate.

Rotary Club outing, May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.
