Cedarville doubleheaders cancelled today

CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville High School Athletic Department announced Friday that today’s softball and baseball doubleheaders with Dayton Christian have been cancelled. No makeup date has been made as of Friday evening.

The next scheduled contests for the Indians varsity softball and baseball teams are set for 5 p.m. Monday, April 11 on the road against Ohio Heritage Conference foe Mechanicsburg.

Greeneview vs. West Liberty-Salem baseball rescheduled

JAMESTOWN — Friday’s rained out varsity baseball contest between Ohio Heritage Conference foes West Liberty-Salem and host Greeneview has been rescheduled. The new date is now set for 5 p.m. April 20 at Greeneview High.

As of 6:30 p.m. Friday, the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. varsity baseball doubleheader, set for Saturday at Carroll High School, is still scheduled to be played as scheduled.

Alter nips Fairborn in extra innings

FAIRBORN — Visiting Kettering Alter scored one run in the ninth inning to claim a 6-5 win over Fairborn on Thursday. The game was played at Wright State University’s Nischwitz Stadium. No individual statistics were provided.

Fairborn’s record is now 5-5 overall. According to the Greater Catholic League’s website, Alter is now 1-2.

Olive Garden to host Fairborn Spirit Night event

FAIRBORN — Olive Garden restaurants, in partnership with the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Network, will host a Fairborn Spirit Night in recognition of Team Moms and the high school athletes they support.

The Fairborn event, one of 36 Olive Garden events in Ohio and the only one in Greene County, will take place on April 12 at the Olive Garden location on 2865 Centre Dr. in Fairborn. Guests are encouraged to wear the school’s colors and join in the celebration. This initiative is part of Olive Garden’s ongoing commitment to support its local communities.

Each Olive Garden location has selected a local high school to partner with in its community and has provided team dining discounts and donations to the athletics program. Since the beginning of the partnership, Olive Garden restaurants nationwide donated more than $570,000 dollars to local schools.

Wood bat tournament set for June

STRUTHERS — The Bob Cene Baseball Complex will host an all-Ohio wood bat baseball tournament for teams with players ages 16-18, June 22 thru June 26. Contact Ken Quinn (330) 719-0581 for information.

CAMPS

Beavercreek hosting fundamentals girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 16th Amanda (Reese) Crockett and Ed Zink Beavercreek Fundamental Girls Basketball Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6-9 at Beavercreek High School.

Cost is $100 per camper with a $10 discount for additional campers from the same family. Anyone who registers by May 20 can register for $90.

Camp will be administered and taught by Beavercreek’s all-time scoring leader Amanda (Reese) Crockett, and current Beavers coach and three-time coach of the year Ed Zink, along with current and former basketball players.

The camp is designed to provide campers with personal attention to improve their basketball fundamentals. Campers will also develop their skills and teamwork each day during league play.

Campers will receive a camp t-shirt, a drink each day, and trophies/awards for contest winners.

Also, Thursday June 9 is Mother-Daughter Camp Day, and family members are invited to participate.

Rotary Club outing, May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.

Bruce climbs GAPB homer list

According to the Cincinnati Reds, the two home runs hit by Jay Bruce in Thursday’s 10-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies have the Reds outfielder climbing the career home run charts at Great American Ball Park. Bruce is ranked second all-time, just three behind former Red Adam Dunn’s career GABP total of 126.
