Fairborn shutout by Beavercreek
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Boy’s tennis team wrapped up their home season on Thursday night playing host to Greene County and Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Beavercreek. As always, the Skyhawks played hard and showed improvement, but still fell 5-0 to their guests.
First singles was the match of the night as Fairborn’s Nhat Mai faced off against Vinuoh Eukunda. Mai won a first set tie-breaker 7-6, but Eukunda came back and won a hard-fought 6-4 second set. Due to the weather and the overall outcome having already being decided, the two played a 10-point tie-breaker to determine the winner. In a 10-8 decision, Eukunda pulled out the win.
Alex Cao played Brian Gscheiole at no. 2 singles and dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision.
Caleb Arthur was out again due to injury so the no. 3 singles spot went by default to the Beavers.
First doubles saw Tyler Fillback and Robert Floyd defeated by Curtis Guthrie and Manau Beniwal 0-6 and 0-6. Meanwhile, Johnny Ngo and Austin Lewis fell 2-6 and 0-6 to Hari Parimanaran and Jacob Jones.
With the home portion of the schedule complete for Fairborn, they now hit the road for their final two matches of the season. The Skyhawks travel to New Carlisle Tecumseh on Monday, then to Xenia (Tuesday), on the Greene County Fairgrounds courts, to wrap up GWOC South and regular season play.
Softball
Rams earn run-ruled win
The Greeneview Rams jumped out to an early lead on Catholic Central and captured a 19-0 victory on Tuesday. Sixteen runs in the first three innings allowed the Greeneview Rams Varsity to put the game away early.
A two-run triple by Makenna Edwards, a wild pitch, an RBI single by Allison Simpson, a passed ball, and an RBI double by Jenna Basinger during the first inning and an RBI double by Edwards, a groundout by Brianna Seigfried, an RBI double by Shelby White, and an RBI double by Simpson in the second inning fueled the Rams offense early.
Edwards racked up three RBIs on two hits for Greeneview.
Seigfried kept Catholic Central off the scoreboard for all five innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out seven.
Seven Rams hitters combined for 13 hits, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Women’s Tennis
Haller, Verstrepen earn HL honors
INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State’s Karoline Haller and Linsey Verstrepen were honored by the Horizon League as the league announced its women’s tennis postseason awards Thursday night. Haller was named to the First Team while Verstrepen was selected to the Second Team.
Haller (Bekkestua, Norway) has posted a 21-13 singles record this season, including a 13-5 mark in #1 singles. The sophomore won six of her seven matches in league play, defeating UIC, Valparaiso, Detroit, Oakland and Milwaukee and also recorded wins against West Virginia, Western Michigan, Marquette, Detroit, Toledo and Evansville. She also went 20-16 in doubles.
The Horizon League Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on February 23, Haller becomes the first Raider to earn First Team All-League honors since Tiffani Foster did so in 2006-07.
Verstrepen (Westerlo, Belgium) has a 20-16 singles record this season, including a 13-3 mark in #2 singles. She, like Haller, went 6-1 in league play, with wins over Cleveland State, UIC, Valparaiso, Detroit and Oakland. The junior also posted a 22-12 overall record in doubles, teaming with Haller to go 14-6 in #2 doubles.
This is the second time that Verstrepen has earned Second Team All-League honors as she was also named to the team as a freshman in 2013-14.
Wright State (18-8, 5-4 Horizon) opens Horizon League Tournament play at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29, as the no. 5-seed Raiders face no. 4 seeded Milwaukee in the opening round at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
RUNNING
Ruffner Memorial 5K set for May 13
XENIA — The second annual Joseph T. Ruffner Memorial 5K Run will take place starting at 6 p.m., Friday May 13 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1120 S. Detroit St.
A free Kids Fun Run will get under way at 5:45 p.m. for kids ages 8 and under, with the adult race starting with a balloon launch at 6 p.m. The course is stroller and leashed pet friendly, with a water station at the halfway point and at the finish line.

GOLF
Jamestown Chamber Golf Outing, May 13
JAMESTOWN — The annual Jamestown Chamber of Commerce golf outing is scheduled for Friday, May 13 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course, 1100 Knoll Haven Rd. in Xenia.
The outing will start at 11 a.m., with registration opening at 10 a.m. Come early to take advantage of the free driving range and putting green privileges, and grab a hot dog or two courtesy of Countryside Propane. When the golf is over, Kelley’s Café will be providing all participants and volunteers a wonderful meal at the golf course. Registration information for sponsorships and playing, including payment options, are available on the Chamber’s website (www.jtchamber.com) or by emailing [email protected]. The deadline for registration is Monday, May 9.
The annual golf outing is the main fundraising activity for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce which allows the Chamber to provide various activities, programs and scholarships to the Jamestown and surrounding communities.
