HIGH SCHOOL

Xenia Lacrosse hosting free clinic Saturday

XENIA — The Xenia High School lacrosse team will be holding a free clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the XHS lacrosse field on the high school grounds, for any interested Xenia Middle School or Xenia High School students in 6-12 who would like to play lacrosse. Mouthpiece is required to use official lacrosse balls. Sticks are provided. GOLF

Rotary Club outing, May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.

SOFTBALL

Wounded Warrior softball team coming to Fairborn

Reston, VA – On Saturday, May 20, the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) will be coming to Wright State University’s Nischwitz Stadium in Fairborn to help support local veterans and community. Warrior Weekend activities include visits to the Dayton VA Center, Hanger Clinic, Children’s Hospital, and Dayton Dragons at 5/3rd Field. The WWAST exhibition games will be played at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Ron Nischwitz Stadium.

The WWAST-to-Dayton Committee is using the Wounded Warrior team event to raise funds for a new Fisher House being built at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Center in 2017.

The organization is also working with local County-based veterans commissions and corporate supporters to sponsor tickets for veterans who cannot afford to attend these exhibition games against Wright-Patterson AFB military and Dayton-area 1st Responders All-Stars (Game #1) and Dayton Legends Softball Club All-Stars (Game #2).

Sponsors needed for Tour de Xenia

XENIA — Tour de Xenia 2016 is still looking for Sponsors and Prime (gift) sponsors. The annual competitive bicycling event, now in its second year, is looking for a sponsor for the Men’s Category 5 race and the Kids Bike Rodeo. The race will be held Saturday, June 4 at Shawnee Park in Xenia.

GOLF

Junior Golf Camp, June 20-23

XENIA — WGC Golf Course in Xenia will host its Miami Valley Junior Golf Association 30th Annual Junior Golf Camp, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., June 20-23. for boys and girls ages 8-17. Campers will receive daily instruction on stroke technique, golf etiquette, the rules of golf as well as time on the practice tee and putting greens to work on stroke technique. All golfers will also play daily on the WGC Golf Course. Long time Golf Camp Director and former Stebbins H.S. golf coach Jim Beaver has a fine staff this year including PGA Pros Garay Goecke and Travis Mumma, Beavercreek H.S. varsity boys and girls coaches Chris Nartker and Angela Crum, Stebbins boys golf coaches Rick Pagniano and Shane Williams, Carroll assistant girls golf coach Alex Goecke and former Trevecca Nazarene University All-American Golfer Betsy Beaver, who is now the varsity girls golf coach at Westerville North High School.

Junior Golf League starts June 29

XENIA — WGC Golf Course will also have its Wednesday Junior Golf League starting at 10:45 a.m. June 29. This nine-hole league will continue each Wednesday through July. Golfers with some playing experience are welcome to compete. The league was started back in 1975 by Jim Beaver and Garay Goecke who will supervise play each week.
