City parks hosting fall events

FAIRBORN — The days are getting shorter, the trees are taking on shades of orange and brown and the ground is getting acquainted with the increasing amount of leaves. Yes, fall is here and the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Department is hosting events to recognize the changing season.

Fall Sky and Birch Tree Painting

Students aged 5 years old and elder are invited to use buttons and paint to demonstrate colors of the fall sky and leaves of birch trees on water color paper. The class will be instructed by Terri Perkins, owner of Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery. Event organizers ask that participants wear old clothing, as acrylic paint will stain.

It will take place 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery, 415 W. Main Street. All supplies are included in the $15 fee. Participants must be registered by Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fairborn Hummingbirds Soccer

Children aged 3-6 years old are invited to learn the basics of soccer during this program. They will learn how to dribble, pass, trap, shoot, defend and position. During each lesson, participants will be instruction of all aspects of the game, participate in drills that are designed to teach skills as well as play non-competitive games.

Lessons will be divided according to the participants age:

– 3-4 years old: 10-11 a.m.

– 5-6 years old: 11 a.m.-noon.

Lessons will take place each Saturday starting Sept. 17 until Oct. 22 within the grassy area behind the tennis courts at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. Participants must be registered by Thursday, Sept. 15. Registration cost $55 per participant.
