Greene County News Report

XENIA — The Xenia Buccaneers play their first real game on the brand new turf at Veterans Field at Doug Adams Stadium Friday night.

The Bucs host neighborhood rival Beavercreek 7 p.m. in a Greater Western Ohio Conference divisional crossover game that is expected to draw several thousand fans.

Finishing touches were being put on the stadium Thursday afternoon but otherwise it’s ready to go. Cox Stadium was renamed to honor the memory of the former Xenia and Ohio State football player who died in a bike accident. His parents, Edna and Armic Adams, set up a trust in his name and donated funds from it to help kick-start the turf project.

The artificial turf has a 10-year warranty and will allow Xenia to host football and soccer tournament games and band competitions.
