XENIA — Spud’s the word at the 38th Annual Potato Festival in Spring Valley this weekend.

Baked potatoes and potato soup are just two of the tasty tater treats that will temp attendees. In addition there will be more than 150 arts and crafts vendors.

The festival kicks off 6 p.m. tonight with the crowning of the king and queen. Junior king and queen follow 6:30 p.m. and then the prince and princess will be named. A potato putt-putt 7:30 p.m. and puttin’ on the hits 8 p.m. close the evening’s activities.

The 17th Annual 5K Tater-Trot run/walk kicks things off 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration begins 8 a.m. Other featured events Saturday include Step’n Tyme cloggers noon; Kiddie Tractor Pull – 1 p.m.; Citizen of the year – 4 p.m. and Rhythm Rounders Western swing – 6 p.m.

The festival opens 9 a.m. Sunday with featured events — Barrett Museum and library book sale — opening 11 a.m. The pet parade begins 1 p.m. Jim McCutcheon will perform songs for all ages 5 p.m.

The festival closes 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. It is located at the intersection of US Route 42 and State Route 725. Parking is available in Walton Park for a small fee. The festival is free.
