XENIA — The Greene County Domestic Violence Consortium honored law enforcement and public service officers for their responses to domestic violence in the community Wednesday. Nine individuals in three categories from agencies across the county received recognition based on nominations for their work.

“When we examine the response to domestic violence, we know that many systems need to be effectively responding,” Family Violence Prevention Center Executive Director Debbie Matheson said. “… We wanted to just say thanks to law enforcement for their effective response to domestic violence.”

Text from each individual’s nomination for the 2015 Law Enforcement Excellence in Service Awards is cited below.

Dispatcher

Marysue Livingston, Fairborn Police Department. “Marysue Livingston does an excellent job talking to domestic violence victims on the telephone. She has a calming demeanor and tone with them and is able to extract information from them that is then passed on to the responding officers. She does well on most calls, but domestic violence calls especially.”

Bambi Branchfield, Xenia Greene Central Communication Center. “Communication Operator Bambi Branchfield consistently provides a reassuring voice and compassion for 911 callers.” Branchfield’s nomination also referenced a particular call from the past year in which she calmed and reassured a domestic violence victim while officers helped her and her children.

Officer Kristopher Brownlee, Beavercreek Police Department. “Officer Kristopher Brownlee has served the citizens of Beavercreek for almost three years. During his tenure with this department, he has responded to a plethora of domestic violence and domestic disturbance type incidents. Deputy Rickles has had a 78 percent arrest rate on the domestic violence cases that he has handled this year. Deputy Rickles always makes the appropriate referrals on behalf of the victims.”

Officer Joseph Dooley, Sugarcreek Township Police Department. “Since joining the department only two years ago, it has been evident that Officer Dooley has spent a great deal of his time finding ways to contribute in a greater way to the community through personal continuing training, seeking to help and serve others. … In addition, he led the department in handling the most domestic cases from 2014-2015.”

Officer Robert Swihart, Xenia Police Division. “Swihart always has an immediate response to domestic violence calls. These domestic violence calls are often difficult and emotionally charged. Once on scene he empowers victims, earning their trust and encourages them to cooperate in his investigation. Officer Swihart has a solid reputation for representing himself as a true professional.”

Investigative Officer

Detective Steve Jahns, Fairborn Police Department. “[Detective Jahns’s] investigations are thorough and complete.
