Final tally: New trustees for townships

XENIA — Beavercreek and Xenia townships will welcome two new members to their boards of trustees.

In races that featured only write-in candidates, Jessica Dean won the open spot in Beavercreek Township, while Sheri Combs was the winner in Xenia Township according to official results released by the Greene County Board of Elections Tuesday evening. Citizens had to wait two weeks for the results because write-in votes were not tallied until the official count, which took place Tuesday.

Dean received 1,696 votes, while current trustee Tom Kretz, who also ran for the open seat, received 1,492 votes. Current trustee Jeff Roberts was not certified to run for re-election.

“Thank you to everyone who voted for me, thank you to everyone who helped us, who supported us, gave us sign locations, helped put up signs, pass out flyers,” Dean wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to my husband who was my biggest supporter and helper!”

Combs received 272 votes to win that open seat, which previously belonged to her husband, Steve, who was not certified to run. Jeremy VanDyne received 160 votes, while Roy Colbrunn received 118. Other write-in candidates were John Faulkner (23 votes), Cindy Gould (21), Barbara Wead (19), and Michal Hood (1).

“I would like to thank all of the Xenia Township residents who supported me in this crazy fall election process,” Sheri Combs said. “We take our politics very serious and will always give our Xenia Township neighbors 100 percent effort. It was a very different election this year but we made it. I just want to extend a sincere thanks to our supporters.”

With neither incumbent certified, all candidates were write-ins
