XENIA TOWNSHIP — Steve Combs unofficially won in his bid to become a Xenia Township trustee.

According to the unofficial numbers provided by the Greene County Board of Elections, Combs received 712 votes (41.06 percent), beating incumbent Daniel O’Callaghan Jr., and fellow challenger Kraig Hagler. Hagler received 622 votes (35.87 percent), while O’Callaghan had 400 votes (23.07 percent).

Combs ran to try to restore leadership to the township. At a recent candidate’s forum he cited turnover in trustees and in the fiscal office as a reason for running, saying there was a lack unity and cohesion.

He said he wants to try and fix that.

O’Callaghan Jr., was appointed to the board in December 2014 to fill a void left when another trustee resigned. He is the information security officer for Sinclair Community College, responsible for protecting the school’s extensive network infrastructure including information of students, alumni, faculty and staff. As a trustee, he said he does the same thing.

Hagler, a local banker, said community involvement and his work on various boards made him the right candidate as did his financial background.

The board of elections is expected to certify the results in the coming weeks.
