JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — The New Jasper Township voters approved a Fire and EMS that was a renewal and additional 1.5 mill levy resoundingly.

The townshp was asking the community to vote yes on a five-year 3-mill levy renewal plus an additional 1.5-mill levy on Nov. 3. According to the Greene County Board of Elections unofficial final totals Tuesday the levy received 65 percent for the levy and 35 percent against it.

The township will bring in approximately $284,000 annually through the levies, costing property owners about $136 annually per $100,000 of appraised value.

Fire Chief Doug McDaniel said the renewal/additional levy will be used for equipment fees and help to increase staffing for the department. This levy will also help New Jasper Township with the general operation of the department.

“It is the money we operate off of and it is very important that we get it passed,” McDaniel said.
