XENIA — Greene County Engineer Stephanie Ann Goff gave the county road crew a big shout-out in the wake of this week’s snowstorm.

“I want to give credit to my guys,” she said. “They did an awesome job overnight and rolled with whatever mother nature threw at us.”

Monday’s weather was constantly changing. In the afternoon, sleet came down for several hours. Later Monday night into Tuesday morning, the heavy snow came down at a continuous, fast rate. For Goff’s crew, Monday night was nonstop.

“Our night crew worked all night keeping the roads passable,” Goff said.

Goff mentioned that on Tuesday, her day shift crew spent all day cleaning off roads. During daylight hours, the sun was out, which helped the crew clean up the roads nicely. They did have to deal with drifting snow until the winds diminished.

“The temperatures getting down to zero … limited our salt usage overnight, but the sunshine has really helped us get most roads cleaned up to the black pavement,” Goff said.

The crews may not have much time to rest. Another snowstorm is predicted to hit Thursday night into Friday morning. Forecasts call for snow amounts of 1-3 inches, but Goff stressed that the weather in Ohio is always so unpredictable.

“We are prepared for whatever mother nature throws at us,” she said. “The weather is always changing conditions and we are always watching forecasts and have game plans on how we are going to deal with the storm, but we are also always adjusting based on what the weather actually does. It’s just the nature of our business.”

While drivers are on the roads, Goff asks that people do not crowd around snowplows and to give all road crews room to work so they can clear the roads.
