XENIA — City of Xenia offices will be closed Thursday due to Winter Storm Landon, the city said in a release.

“After closely monitoring National Weather Service forecasts for our immediate region, and in collaboration with our partners at Greene County and adjoining cities, City Manager Brent Merriman has decided to close operations to the public tomorrow, Thursday, February 3, 2022, in light of the significant potential for hazardous weather conditions (notably icing),” the release said. “This closure includes the City Administration Building, 107 E. Main Street, Xenia, and the Justice Center and Xenia Municipal Court, 101 N. Detroit Street, Xenia. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution for staff and customers of City services.”

The city’s administrative leadership will be working remotely on Thursday and will be monitoring conditions to adjust local response as needed and warranted. The city’s essential staff in public safety and public service will report for service to respond to 911 dispatch/police/fire/EMS requests for services and whatever weather conditions the city encounters.

City leadership will make a decision regarding Friday’s operations at a later time.

City officials said they encourage individuals who do not need to be out and about to remain “in the comfort of their homes for the duration of the winter storm on Thursday and Friday.”

City crews will be working around the clock to treat roadways in order to maintain the safest possible conditions for emergency travel. Residents are encouraged to park vehicles in driveways or at public parking lots in the city in lieu of parking them on the roadways to allow public service personnel to easily navigate the rights-of-ways and decrease the likelihood of damage to private property.

The city will be posting regular updates via social media and website platforms to keep the public apprised of conditions and efforts to address them.
