XENIA — Several local groups made presentations to the Greene County Board of Commissioners Thursday as part of an application for federal funding.

Representatives of the villages of Clifton, Jamestown and Yellow Springs, the city of Bellbrook, Housing Solutions of Greene County, Community Action Partnership, Yellow Springs Home Inc., and the Family Violence Prevention Center requested funding for various projects.

Commissioners will recommend to state officials four of the eight programs to split the county’s allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds, which are administered through the Ohio Development Services Agency. The four projects will split about $116,800.

The projects are designed to “benefit low and moderate income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight or meet an urgent need of the community,” according to information from the Greene County Department of Development.

Village of Jamestown: Curb and gutter project on Davis Street, requesting $37,600.

Village of Yellow Springs: Sidewalk project along State Route 68, requesting $26,000.

City of Bellbrook: ADA-compatible ramps in the downtown area, requesting $30,800.

Housing Solutions of Greene County: Demolition project at a Xenia home, requesting $16,400.

Village of Clifton: Storm sewer project in the village, requesting $81,800.

Community Action Partnership: Parking lot resurfacing project at Xenia office, requesting $33,300.

Yellow Springs Home Inc: Revolving loan fund for home repairs and maintenance, requesting $15,000.

Family Violence Prevention Center: Funding for operating expenses for victim services, requesting $21,900.

A public hearing will be held June 9 to announce the recommended projects.

Greenewood Manor rates

In other business, commissioners approved a $6 per day room rate increase at Greenewood Manor, a nursing home owned and operated by the county. County administrator Brandon Huddleson noted that the increase comes “to keep up with growing expenses.”

The new rates will be effective July 1.

Detention center dishwasher

Commissioners also approved a $99,500 contract with Bushong Restaurant Equipment for a new dishwasher at the Greene County Adult Detention Center.

Rates at Greenewood Manor will increase effective July 1.
