XENIA — More than 200 Greene County Career Center senior students will be recognized at a ceremony Tuesday night. The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. May 24 at Wright State’s Nutter Center.

“We’re very proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2016,” Superintendent David Deskins said in a statement. “The list of accomplishment is impressive, from the scholarship money they’ve earned to the national awards they’ve won in their career-technical student organizations. Our staff has done a fantastic job of preparing them for their careers, whether they go on to college or right into the workforce.”

Deskins noted that this year’s senior class has earned more than $780,000 in scholarships.

The class’s valedictorian and salutatorian, Ryan Bowman and Gavin Estes, respectively, will speak at the senior recognition ceremony.

Bowman, a Beavercreek resident, is a senior in the electrical wiring and motor controls program. In 2015, he was named to the Greene County Career Center chapter of the National Technical Honor Society. Bowman was named the recipient of his program’s Distinguished Student Award and the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence.

He has volunteered with his church as an audio and video technician and worked on the Beavercreek City Schools’ STEM jet renovation. He has been active in his high school band, the Bellbrook Amateur Radio Club and Dayton Amateur Radio Association.

Bowman plans to become an electrical engineer while studying at Wright State University.

Estes is a senior from Xenia High School enrolled in the veterinary science program. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence. He was part of the team that place third in 2016 in the Ohio FFA Veterinary Science competition and was a member of the 2015 team that placed second in the nation. As an individual, he placed second in Ohio in the 2015 competition.

Estes is a volunteer at the Caesar Creek Pioneer Village and has worked at the IEA horse shows at the Greene County Career Center’s Agricultural Research Center. He is secretary of his FFA chapter and plays piccolo in Xenia’s marching band.

Estes plans to attend Ohio State University to major in animal science and work in the veterinary field.

The graduation ceremony is free and open to the public.
