XENIA — Xenia High School has announced its 2017 graduates of distinction.
Instead of naming valedictorians and salutatorians, the school has for several years taken the top 5 percent of its seniors and named them graduates of distinction.
This year they are: Christina Bistrek; Anna Brown; Jamea Clark; Michael Graham; Natalie Jones; Amelia Maloney; Peyton McLain; Anna Moore; Mikayla Morris; Kerstin Norris; Hannah Propes; Allison Rapp; Alexis Rickels; Kylie Saner; and Eli Shapiro.
Bistrek is the daughter of Cindy Bistrek. She participated in art club (vice-president), chem club, National Honor Society, and Renaissance. She plans to attend the University of Dayton to major in civil engineering.
Brown is the daughter of Judi and Tyrone Brown. She was National Honor Society president and participated in student council, volleyball, Renaissance, Junior Leadership of Dayton, Youth Ministry, and chem club. She plans to study forensic biology at Ohio Northern University.
Clark is the daughter of James and Jamie Clark. She played soccer and basketball, ran track and was in National Honor Society, student council, chem club, XSTAT and Spanish club. She will attend Wright State University and major in biology and pre-med.
Graham is the son of David and Lisa Graham. He ran cross country and played tennis, was in National Honor Society and was on Xenia’s Board of Recreation, Art and Cultural Activities. He plans to study political science at The Ohio State University.
Jones is the daughter of Jill and Robert Jones. She was the student council executive board president and was in chem club, Renaissance, National Honor Society, cheerleading, and dancing, and played softball and lacrosse. She plans to attend Wright State University to major in mass media communications.
Maloney is the daughter of Renee and Doug Maloney. She was varsity soccer captain and also played basketball, ran track and swam. She was varsity boys basketball team manager, vice-president of the student council executive board, and was on the prom committee, in Renaissance, and National Honor Society. She plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in early childhood education.
McLain is the daughter of Rhonda Nomack and Scott McLain. She was in Renaissance, Spanish club, student council, XSTAT, and yearbook, and was on the varsity tennis team and prom committee. She will attend either Wright State University or Sinclair Community College and major in psychology.
Moore is the daughter of Rita Moore and Matthew Moore. She was in Spanish club, chemistry club, National Honor Society (secretary), and the Yellow Ribbon Project. She plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in speech and hearing science.
Morris is the daughter of Miranda Walker and Nathan Morris. She was in competitive cheer, National Honor Society, Renaissance, student council, and chem club and was on the prom committee. She plans to attend Ohio Northern University as a pharmacy major.
Norris is the daughter of Pam Norris and Steve Carr. She was on the varsity softball team, and student council, and was in National Honor Society, Muse Machine, XSTAT, chem club, and Spanish club. She will study international studies and political science at The Ohio State University.
Propes is the daughter of Dennis and Christine Propes. She was on the varsity volleyball team, and participated in club volleyball, yearbook, National Honor Society, chem club, prom committee, student council, and Renaissance. She plans to attend the University of Dayton as a pre-med major.
Rapp is the daughter of Christine and Brett Rapp. She was student council senior class vice-president, Xenia FFA vice-president and past secretary, and was in Renaissance, National Honor Society, Greene County 4H, and served as Greene County Junior Fair Board president. She will attend The Ohio State University as an animal science and pre-veterinary major.
Rickels is the daughter of Rhonda and Robert Rickels. She was in National Honor Society, student council, chem club, People to People (student ambassador), Spanish club, and the congress for Future Scientists and Technologists. She will attend The University of Toledo as a pharmacy major.
Saner is the daughter of Amberly and Jim Saner. She was on the swim team, and the Coffman YMCA swim team, and was in chem club, XSTAT, Spanish club, National Honor Society, and YMCA Junior Leadership of Dayton. She will attend Wright State University and major in engineering.
Shapiro is the son of Tim and Gretchen Shapiro. He was in the marching band, jazz band, student council, National Honor Society, and chem club. He will attend Capital University and major in percussion performance and music technology.
