FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Summer Tennis League finished another season with the championship playoffs crowning the singles and doubles champions.
Each division had a playoff for the players with the best records during the summer season to determine the champions of both singles and doubles.
In the Division A playoffs, the top six players played in the tournament. In the finals, Rodolfo Burguera made it five in a row, beating Jason Holloway, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in a close match that took more than three hours. This was his toughest championship match of the past year, according to organizers.
Burguera beat Jesse Holloway, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals.
In the Division A doubles championship, the father and son team of Jinsob and Jaewoo Choi beat Shannon Young and Curtis Guthrie, 7-5, 6-4, to win their first Fairborn title. Jaewoo Choi plays for Centerville, while Young is a coach at Beavercreek and Guthrie is a Beavercreek player.
In Division B doubles, a new championship team was also crowned as former Wright State player Pete Wallace and Laura Friend beat former Wright State player Jennifer Beard and Jenny Klump, 6-2, 6-1.
The Division B singles are still in the semifinals due to rain delays. Due to the number of players, the top four from the two groups played in the tournament. In one semifinal, Ilya Vitebskiy will meet the Xenia Legacy Christian Academy coach Van Holloway, after he beat Keith Taylor, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
In the other semifinal action, Dhira Venkatramani, will take on Thusitha Gunasekera. Venkatramani beat Brooklyn Hunter, while Gunasekera beat Legacy Christian’s Ethan Croucher.
