Greeneview defeats Dixie

NEW LEBANON — Brooklyn Langford collected four hits in five at bats, as No. 10-seed Greeneview defeated No. 9 seed Dixie, 10-3, May 9 in a Division III sectional softball tournament opener.

The Rams scored on a two-run home run by Brooke Eakle, a double, and a single in the first inning.

Brianna Seigfried earned the win. She threw seven innings, allowing three runs, five hits and striking out three.

Greeneview collected 14 hits. Langford, Allison Simpson, Eakle and Bryona Hudson each had multiple hits. Simpson went 2-for-4 at the plate with a team-high four runs batted in. Langford led the Rams four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.

Susor, Cook earn all HL softball honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Wright State junior outfielder Honnah Susor and sophomore catcher Macy Cook were named First Team All-Horizon League as the softball postseason awards were announced on Tuesday by the league office.

Susor (Oregon Clay) finished the regular season third in the league in hitting with a .379 average. She also ranked first in triples (six), second in runs scored (39), stolen bases (22) and on-base percentage (.472), third in hits (58) and total bases (83), tied for third in walks (26) and was seventh in slugging percentage (.542).

In league play, Susor was the leader in batting average (.449), hits (35),runs scored (24) and triples (5). She was second in total bases (52), on-base percentage (.511) and stolen bases (14), tied for third in doubles (7) and tied for fifth in slugging percentage (.667).

Cook (Uniontown Lake) was ninth in the league with a .347 batting average and also ranked seventh in on-base percentage (.428). In league play, she was seventh in batting average (.369) and ninth in on-base percentage (.434).

Cook has recorded nine multi-hit games so far in 2017, including three hits against UC Santa Barbara, Houston and Cleveland State, and had a season-high four RBI versus UC Santa Barbara at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational on February 11. She also had five hits, including two home runs, and drove in six as the Raiders swept a three-game home series against Northern Kentucky last week.

Wright State (20-29, 14-10 Horizon) opens Horizon League Tournament play at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, as the No. 4-seed Raiders take on No. 5 seed Detroit Mercy at Flames Field in Chicago. The tournament continues through Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals the following week.

SW Ohio Track practices start

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club summer program starts on May 30 at Yellow Springs High School. The practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. A host of meets will take place this summer.

Practices for 7-12 year olds: 5-6 p.m.

Practices for 13 and older: 6-7:30 p.m.

The SWOTC includes elementary, middle school, high school, post collegiate and master athletes. All are welcome. The SWOTC is a tax exempt and sanctioned program. Kids Fishing Derby May 20

BEAVERCREEK — Grab those fishing poles, bait and tackle and head over from 8-11:30 a.m. May 20 to Phillips Park (new location this year), 2132 Dayton-Xenia Road.

Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture and McAfee Heating & Air are sponsoring the ninth annual Fishing Derby. Mister C will take the stage at 10:30 a.m. to do a Hair Raising Science program. Prizes will be awarded at 11 a.m. to the child who catches the smallest, largest and most fish. No pre-registration is required for this free event.

Dayton Boat Club offering summer camps

DAYTON — The Dayton Boat Club will be holding two Introduction to Rowing Camps this summer for youth in Grades 7 – 12. Each camp will consist of eight two-hour training sessions. No experience necessary. All sessions are held at the Dayton Boat Club Boathouse located on East River Road near Moraine. Cost is $160.

Session 1 — June 19 – July 1; Session 2 — July 17 – July 29

Times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 6-8 p.m.; Saturday 9-11 a.m.

Jamestown Chamber golf outing in May

JAMESTOWN — The annual Jamestown Chamber of Commerce golf outing will take place Friday, May 19 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course, 1100 Knoll Haven Rd. in Xenia. The outing will start at 11 a.m., with registration opening at 10am. Come early to take advantage of the free driving range and putting green privileges, as well as getting a hot dog or two courtesy of Countryside Propane

Participants will be able to enjoy beverages and snacks, courtesy of the Chamber, and when the golf is over Kelley’s Café will be providing all participants and volunteers a wonderful meal at the golf course. Registration information for sponsorship and playing, including payment options, are available on the Chamber’s website (www.jtchamber.com) or by emailing info@jtchamber.com. The deadline for registration is Friday, May 12.

The annual golf outing is the main fundraising activity for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce which allows the Chamber to provide various activities, programs and scholarships to the Jamestown and surrounding communities.

Tornadoes football fundraiser, May 12

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will host a fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. Friday May 12 at the Chipotle restaurant at 1620 West Park Square. Tell the cashier that you’re supporting the team and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Xenia Tornadoes semi-pro football team.
