BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook Middle School seventh grade science classes had a visit from Kendra Schide, chief naturalist for the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District.
Do bears live in Ohio? What animals are extripated from Ohio? Could the mosquito be the most dangerous animal?
The classes learned much new information from Schide, whose presentations correlated to the environmental science concepts the students have been studying, such as threatened and endangered species; the preservation, conservation, and development approaches to environmental issues, types of environmental issues, resource use, population growth, pollution, and hunting versus poaching. Schide brought along many of the animal skins for the students to see
The American Black Bear is endangered in Ohio with numbers of about 175. The timber wolf, cougar and lynx are animals that are extripated from Ohio; they used to be in Ohio but not any more. Schide said the mosquito is the most dangerous animal, because it can carry so many diseases and transfer them so so many different animals.
