BELLBROOK — Seventh graders at Bellbrook Middle School were recently treated to the Dayton Power and Light presentation “Think Hot, Stay safe” as a conclusion to their electricity and circuit unit.
They learned about the dangers of fallen lines and safety around electricity. The presentation highlighted the dangers of hot wires and educated the students on how to stay safe around electricity. Students learned to never touch a fallen power line and to keep children and pets far away from a fallen line
The DP&L demonstration team discussed electric safety and provided demonstrations of the power of electricity including the electric arc flash and cooking a hot dog. This demonstration ties in with the seventh grade science standards of electricity and transfer of energy and reviews energy concepts from their previous ohio energy project unit.
Students said they enjoyed the presentation and each left with interesting facts and valuable safety lessons. One student said, “I learned how to get out of a car if there are fallen wires,” and another added, “It was cool to see the hot dog cook from just a regular wire in our house.”
