XENIA — More than 300 pounds of turkey were gobbled up during Xenia’s annual free Thanksgiving day meal Nov. 23 at the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, 130 E. Church St.

The annual event is a collaborative between the Xenia Area Association of Churches & Ministries, the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center and the City of Xenia, the free event — which started nearly 20 years ago.

In addition to the basted birds, there was more than 200 pounds of mashed potatoes for the nearly 600 people who attended.

WGC Golf Course donated the turkeys, which are cooked and prepared by Groceryland. Other items, including rolls, green beans and the mashed potatoes are donated by other businesses.

The City of Xenia provided pies via donations from staff and residents. XAACM provided the rest, with help from donors including Greene Memorial Hospital.

The XARSC allows the use of its facility free of charge.

Volunteers served and delivered meals to resident unable to leave their homes.
