Devotional: Spirit and life

0

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” (John 6:63)

Our flesh is the most corruptible part of our being. We strive to preserve it with medical procedures but our physical part still waists away. It is as though we worship how we look, or wish we looked different, instead of looking at ourselves as our Creator does. To Him we are all beautiful. We are created in His image. That image goes deeper than our outward appearance. If we base our life on our outward appearance we will be disappointed sooner or later. True life for us is found in our spirit, the part of us that makes us alive.

In the world our physical part will be lifted up and honored. That is natural because the world doesn’t know our God and the deeper things of Him. Our physical part is going to pass away into a glorified body one day and that will be the outward expression of who we truly are inwardly. Our life now and in eternity will be expressed from the words of life we have received from Jesus. He fills us with Himself and our spirit rejoices. We indeed know true life now – the abundant life He promises.

Heavenly Father, we need more of Your Son. We need more of the Spirit that You have sent in His name. Bless us with more of Their presence to know more assuredly that we are loved by You. Open our spirit to receive the Truth of Jesus’ Words that we might be all You wish us to be. In His name. Amen.
