Honoring holidays

Funny thing about holidays. We celebrate some of them and many others are pretty much ignored.

America has a slew of holidays. Some are familiar to us all including Christmas, New Year’s , Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day and Easter.

Others, though, aren’t celebrated nearly as much as the six listed above.

Some of them – including Love Your Pet Day- are observed by some but they aren’t celebrated as nearly as lavishly as the holidays mentioned above.

You may have heard of some of them but there are plenty of so-called holidays many of us pay no attention to whatsoever.

For example, do your realize December 18 is Wear a Plunger on Your Head Day? I sure didn’t.

But that’s just one of dozens and dozens of … um . . so-called special days most of us don’t even know about.

Here’s a short list of some of the pretty-much-ignored holidays …

Build a Scarecrow Day. July 1.

National Hamburger Day. May 28.

Toothache Day. Feb. 9.

Wiggle Your Toes Day. Aug. 6.

Blame Someone Else Day. Aug. 13.

Make Your Dream Come True Day. Jan. 13.

No Housework Day. April 7.

Love Your Pet Day. February 21.

Moment of Laughter Day. April 18.

Lazy Day. Aug. 10.

Grouch Day. Oct. 15.

Take A Hike Day. Nov. 17.

Cheer Up The Lonely Day. July 11.

Talk Like a Pirate Day. Dec. 19.

Unfortunately my birthday is Nov. 24 and I am a little disappointed every year because Nov. 24 is also Use Even If The Seal Is Broken Day.
