Norman named Newsmaker of the Year

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University’s Grace Norman will receive the “Newsmaker of the Year” award from the Public Relations Society of America at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4. The presentation will be part of the Dayton chapter’s Prism Award ceremony at the Boonshoft Museum in Dayton.

The PRism awards are traditionally awards for public relations professionals in the Dayton and Miami Valley area. According to PRSA’s website, the “Newsmaker of the Year” award honors an individual from the Dayton area “who is not a professional communicator, but whose communications acumen and media savvy has advanced our community in a positive way.”

Norman, a 2016 Paralympic Games gold and bronze medalist, was honored to receive this award. This year has been an exciting journey for Norman, beginning with two medals at the Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and adjusting to Cedarville student life. Through it all, she has been able to use her story to positively impact her community and encourage others.

“I believe that my story has given hope to people working to achieve goals in their lives,” said the freshman nursing major. “I also hope that I have inspired the amputee community in Dayton to work toward and follow their dreams.”

Norman is thankful she had the opportunity to share her story and her faith through media this year, and is grateful she was chosen for the Newsmaker Award. She is also thankful for the Cedarville community that has helped her grow as a Christian and as an athlete.

“Cedarville has helped me grow my faith and, in that way, has reminded me who I compete for,” said Norman.
