Bellbrook blanks Monroe

BELLBROOK — Sydney Hollingsworth scored off an assist from Bailey Sedlak, and Lydia Travis added an unassisted goal as Bellbrook beat Monroe, 2-0, in a Southwestern Buckeye League match Sept. 14.

‘Hawks blank Rams

FAIRBORN — Fairborn is 1-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference American South after a 5-0 win over Trotwood-Madison Sept. 14. Zayne Pacifico scored twice, while Joe Nickel, Keegan Dierker, and Rhees Adams each scored once. Dierker added two assists, while Josh Greene chipped in one assist.

Fairborn next plays Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Riverside Stebbins .

Fairborn tennis tops WC

FAIRBORN — After a lengthy rain delay, the Fairborn tennis team had little trouble with West Carrollton in claiming a 4-1 win Sept. 14.

The only loss came when Tiana Thomas defaulted at second singles after sustaining an ankle injury early in the match. Paige Murry won, 6-2, 6-3, at first singles, and McKayla Lyons won, 6-1, 6-0, at third singles. Katelyn Byczkowski and Amanda Wilson overcame a slow start to win, 7-5, 6-2, at first doubles, while Rita Chien and Abby Lafferty remained undefeated together, running their record to 5-0 as they rolled to 6-1, 6-0 win at second doubles.

In reserve action, Caitlin Bowling won a 6-2 singles match. Caitlin Sanders lost her match, 2-6, and the doubles team of Makayla Byndom and Melissa Le lost, 5-6.

Greeneview outlasts West Liberty-Salem

JAMESTOWN — Bryce Ratliff had 32 assists, and Mady Brittingham had 13 kills to lead Greeneview to a 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-8 Ohio Heritage Conference win over West Liberty-Salem Sept. 14.

Maddie Johnson had nine digs and Caitlin Sweat had four blocks for Greeneview, 10-3 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

The reserve team won, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17 to improve to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the OHC.

Tipp tops Fairborn

FAIRBORN — Fairborn dropped a GWOC volleyball match Sept. 14, losing, 17-25, 22-25, 8-25, to Tippecanoe. Kayleigh Finlayson had eight kills, 11 digs and a 2.76 passing percentage. Jessica Black had five blocks and four kills, and Hani Sampson and Sam Hart both had 14 digs.

Greeneview golfers win again

JAMESTOWN — Mason Witt fired a 33 and Matt Hovan shot a personal-best 41 to lead Greeneview to a 172-182 win over Greenon Sept. 14.

Tye Frost had a 48, Detric Hovan and Levi Bradds each had 50, and Bryce Hudson had a 53.

Fairbanks VB tops Cedarville

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville’s volleyball team dropped to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the Ohio Heritage Conference after a 17-25, 15-25, 18-25 loss to Fairbanks Sept. 14.

The Indians host West Liberty-Salem, on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Alter bests Bellbrook golfers

SPRINGBORO — Bellbrook dropped a non-league golf match to Kettering Alter, 169-196, at Yankee Trace Golf Course Sept. 14. Zach Crampton shot 44 for Bellbrook, while Ryan Wehner and Gabe Hine shot 49, and Benton Miller 54.

Fairborn, Stebbins hosting food drive

FAIRBORN — Students from Fairborn and Stebbins high schools have organized a “Football for Food” campaign to help stock food pantries in the Fairborn and Riverside areas. The food drive will take place in the days leading up to the Thursday, Sept. 28 football game between the two schools.

Pep Rallies will be held at Fairborn City Schools Sept. 12-15. The event will end with Fairborn’s Homecoming Game, which will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 28. The food will be presented and financial donors will be recognized at halftime.

Yellow Jackets pull out 1-0 road win

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Derek Braak’s goal in the 89th minute provided Cedarville with a 1-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference result Sept. 14 at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Cedarville improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 G-MAC with its second-straight victory – both on the road. John Schwien set up the game-winner with an assist. Braak received a pass on the left side, beat the defense, and tucked a low shot inside the far post.

The Yellow Jackets out-shot the hosts 15-4 including a 10-1 bulge in the second half. CU placed five shots on frame while the defense did not allow a shot on goal. Each team was whistled for 13 fouls. Graham Sachtleben logged all 90 minutes in goal and was credited with his second straight shutout.

The team will play at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Trevecca.

Atkinson, Jackets stun KWC

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Hannah Atkinson scored twice in the last seven minutes to rally Cedarville to a 3-2 G-MAC women’s soccer win Sept. 14 at Kentucky Wesleyan.

The outcome ended a three-game slide for the Yellow Jackets, who square their record at 3-3 overall and 1-1 G-MAC. CU trailed 2-1 until Atkinson netted the equalizer in the 84th minute on an assist from Creslyn Van Dyck. She scored the winner just 2:33 later when her shot trickled over the goal line. Alyssa Maillefer was credited with the assist.

KWC broke the scoreless deadlock in the 31st minute, but Sam Newman countered with 22 seconds left in the half on a Sarah Meisel assist. The host Panthers, 0-3 and 0-2 G-MAC, regained the lead in the 65th minute setting up Atkinson’s heroics. Allison Garlock played 90 minutes in goal with seven saves.

They will play again 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Trevecca.
