Driver unconscious after crash

XENIA — A pair of weekend emergencies on the eastern side of Greene County saw one patient flown to an area hospital and one structure destroyed.

The first incident was a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred Friday evening in Jefferson Township near Bowersville. The driver of the vehicle in the incident – which took place on Corry Road – was unconscious after the crash trapped him inside and during a 25-minute extrication.

The patient was transported to an area hospital by helicopter.

“The driver was unconscious but breathing the whole time when MedFlight lifted off,” Silvercreek Township Fire Department Chief Luke Brubaker said. “The patient actually started doing better once we got him out of the vehicle, but he was still unconscious. He had a good pulse, blood pressure and all his vital signs were in good shape when he left.”

No information was available on the patient’s condition Monday.

A barn fire on Ross Road near Jamestown Saturday evening was the result of a lightning strike, according to Silvercreek Township Fire Department Chief Steve Payton. According to Payton, the detached structure and its contents, including a lawn tractor and a four wheeler, were deemed total losses.

Payton said no one was at home at the time of the fire and that the structure was fully involved in flames when fire crews were dispatched on the call. Crews were on the scene for about two and a half hours.

No injuries were reported in association with the fire.
