DAYTON — Family and friends from Central State University gathered for an ALS awareness kick-off party in Dayton Saturday, Aug. 1. Around 50 people gathered at the home of Trona Logan, a former student, basketball star, coach and employee at Central State University. Logan has ALS, and as part of her Ice Bucket Challenge, she brought in the Lady Marauders to raise awareness for the cause.

Those participating in the challenge dumped buckets of ice water on their heads on stages. Trona’s sister Christina spoke for her and issued the challenge to the Lady Marauders.

“I’m happy to see so many folks here today to support me and my family, and others with ALS. We need to find treatments and a cure for ALS to help all the people with the disease. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is one step toward that goal.”

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was reignited on Friday, July 31, in Fenway Park, by the two young men who are credited with creating the social media phenomenon last year – Pat Quinn and Pete Frates, both of whom are living with ALS.
