DAYTON – According to National Retail Federation’s back-to-school spending survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, the average family with children in grades K-12 plans to spend $630.36 on electronics, apparel and other school needs, down from $669.28 last year. Total spending is expected to reach $24.9 billion.

New clothes, school supplies and electronics can help get students excited for the academic year, but these supplies can be very costly. AAA members taking advantage of the Discounts and Rewards program to shop with AAA partners can save on everything from crayons to dorm room décor, as well as laptops, clothing and prescription eye glasses.

“Prepping for the new school year can put a strain on household budgets,” said AAA Public Affairs Manager, Cindy Antrican. “AAA wants to remind members that the same card in their wallet that offers the security of roadside assistance can lead to substantial savings on everything needed for a successful academic year.” This year shoppers taking advantage of the Ohio Tax Holiday (Aug. 7-9) can save even more. The tax holiday items included are clothing priced at $75 per item or less, school supplies priced at $20 per item or less, and school instructional material priced at $20 per item or less. The tax holiday also applies to on-line purchases.

AAA members can save on back-to-school shopping at many retailers including Cincinnati Outlets, Tanger Outlets, Reebox, Payless, LensCrafters and much more. Visit www.AAA.com/discounts for even more savings.
