XENIA — The Carnegie Historic District recently received a grant to help fund a development project for the Carnegie Library.

Historic district organizers applied for and received $8,600 from the city in the form of a community development block grant to help fund a $50,000 project to provide an historic preservation study and historic structure report/master plan. The group also received $5,000 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Xenia Carnegie Historic District, Inc., plans to pursue other grants and fund-raising opportunities to obtain the remainder of the $50,000.

To aid in the development of the library, Heritage Ohio — Ohio’s official history preservation and Main Street organization — received authorization from the Greene County Board of Commissioners, which owns the building, to advertise the development opportunity on its website.

Anyone wishing to donate toward the fund-raising effort can visit www.greenegiving.org or call Ed Marrinan at 937-458-2064. Make sure checks indicate the donation is for the Carnegie Endowment.
