FAIRBORN – A recent financial audit of the City of Fairborn by Auditor of State David Yost’s office has returned with a clean audit report. The city’s record keeping earned the Auditor of State Award with Distinction, and was accepted by Assistant Finance Director Annetta Williams at the Aug. 17 Council Meeting.

While the city has previously received the Auditor of State Award, this is the first time the city has earned the “with distinction” honor.

Finance Director Randy Groves stated that the award with distinction was presented to the Finance Department for meeting the strict criteria set forth by the auditor of state. The criteria includes:

– The entity filing timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s Office in the form of a CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report);

– the audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs;

– the entity’s management letter contains no comments related to: ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, lack of timely report submission, reconciliation, failure to obtain a timely Single Audit, findings for recovery less than $100, and public meetings or public records.

“The Finance Department was pleased to accept this award on behalf of the city,” Groves said. “The credit should go to all the departments and especially their fiscal support staff, as this is truly the result of a team effort. We strive throughout the city to be prudent stewards of the taxpayers’ money, and this award recognizes these efforts. I am especially proud of the entire Finance Department staff, as they are the leaders of the city’s efforts, and they operate daily with the highest degree of fiscal responsibility and professionalism to preserve and protect the city’s finances.”
