ENON – The Greenon Local School District and food and hospitality provider AVI Foodsystems (AVI) have teamed up to enhance the food service program in the school cafés.

“AVI has a proven track record of providing healthy, delicious meals for students in an efficient and fiscally responsible manner,” Treasurer Brad McKee said. “The Board of Education decided to pursue this option to control costs in our food service program and improve participation by offering fresh, healthy lunches students enjoy.”

The Food Service Department will continue to be staffed by Greenon employees, with management personnel provided by AVI. AVI focuses on fresh food choices, educational promotions, wellness initiatives and friendly, fast service.

Another change to the food service program is the introduction of Free Universal Breakfast for every kindergarten through sixth-grade student at Enon Primary and Indian Valley Intermediate. The USDA Universal Breakfast program is a federally-subsidized program designed to increase breakfast participation and access to healthy breakfast for students.

“We know that our students learn better when they arrive to class ready for the day and having a nutritious breakfast and healthy lunch is a critical part of that,” Superintendent Brad Silvus said. “Through our partnership with AVI and the introduction of universal breakfast at the primary and intermediate school, we hope to offer options that will help our students achieve their goals and get the most out of their education.”

AVI expressed excitement in relation to the partnership as well.

“We’re thrilled to partner with another amazing school district and look forward to bringing the culinary program to an entirely new level,” Jennifer Currey, SNS, District Manager for AVI, said.
