FAIRBORN — After a record-breaking number of participants in the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Summer Tennis League, the playoff tournament was held in the month of August.

The new Community Park courts in Fairborn helped draw the huge number of players this year. With so many players in each division, eight players made the playoffs.

The singles divisions were divided into two groups so each group contributed four to the playoffs.

In Doubles, the top 4 teams played for the championship. The playoffs finished on Labor Day.

Rodolfo Burguera won the Division A singles championship for the fourth year in a row. Burguera won the championship over Jinsob Choi 7-6 (7-4 in the tiebreak) and was tied in the second set 4-all when he pulled away to win the next two games to win for the fourth year in a row, 6-4.

In Division B, there was a new winner this summer. Matt Pitstick, the top player from Carroll, won the championship. He beat the Xenia Christian coach, Van Holloway, in a good match. Pitstick kept control of the match with his hard-hitting topspin and chased down all balls hit his way to win the championship, 6-3, 6-1. After Pitstick’s win he stated he was ready to try the Division A tournament next summer.

In the Doubles playoffs, only the top four teams made the playoffs as there were fewer teams in doubles. In a good final match, Kettering’s Harry Bromer and Jon Long of Fairborn prevailed over Xenia Christian players Jason Holloway and Rosie Thompson 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to win the doubles championship for the first time.

In Division B, Fairborn co-workers Zach Henderson and Kevin Stevens defeated the Steve Neff Sr. and Steve Neff Jr. combo 6-4, 6-1 to give them a championship in their first time playing in the Parks League.
