Five of the 10 Greene County-area high school boys basketball teams earned top-10 seedings in their respective basketball divisions on Sunday.
Yellow Springs (15-5) earned the highest seeding among area schools at no. 3 in the Division IV sectional tournament. The Bulldogs currently sit atop the Metro Buckeye Conference standings and will face Dayton Jefferson in an opening round game, at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Upper Bracket at Troy High School.
The Lower Bracket has Cedarville (9-10) as the D-IV sectional’s sixth seed. The Indians are currently third in the Ohio Heritage Conference. They’ll open up tournament play against West Alexandria Twin Valley South at 5 p.m., Feb. 20, also at Troy High.
Greater Western Ohio Conference, South Division co-leader Xenia (16-4) and GWOC South second-place Fairborn (12-8) were seeded fifth and ninth respectively in the Division I sectional tournament.
In the Dayton 1 bracket, Xenia opens up at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19 against Troy. Fairborn begins tournament play at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 against GWOC South foe Miamisburg in the Dayton 2 bracket. Both games will be held at Vandalia Butler High School’s Student Activity Center.
Carroll, the current runner up in the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North at 13-7 overall, was voted the Division II sectional’s fifth seed. The Patriots play the winner between Middletown Fenwick and Monroe at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at Kettering’s Trent Arena.
